The relation between ethnoscience and reproductive models is suggested by John A. Barnes, "Genetrix : genitor :: nature : culture?" in The Character of Kinship, ed. Jack Goody (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1973). It is also a very useful concept for bridging the domains of perception and reproduction.
