One way to avoid uncovering assumptions is to refuse to reread. Certain theories privilege first readings almost as they would capture all acts of perception and all acts of semiosis within the framework of a dyadic interaction. It is a way not to use your brains or your body. It is also a way to avoid the deeply contingent nature of all communication. To refuse re-reading in theory and in practice is to reject the transcodable nature of all communication and perception.
